Rachel Nicholls and the BBCSO, conducted by Ilan Volkov, gave a wonderful premiere of 'The Crimson Bird' on February 17th, 2017. The Guardian critic wrote:
'Rachel Nicholls delivered a gleaming, soaring performance in Nicola LeFanu's fiery new concertante.'
'The Crimson Bird' is available on BBC R3 player until March 16th.

On Friday February 17th 2017, The Crimson Bird for soprano and orchestra will be premiered by the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The soprano soloist is Rachel Nicholls, and the conductor Ilan Volkov.

A new CD msv28565 on the Metier/Divine Art label will be launched at the RAM on Saturday February 18th 2017. Gemini, director Ian Mitchell, are the performers, with soloists Sarah Leonard, soprano, and Aleksander Szram, piano. There are four works: 'Mandala 3' and 'Fire in Leaf and Grass' by David Lumsdaine, and 'Invisible Places' and 'Trio 2: Song for Peter', by Nicola LeFanu.

The BBC Philharmonic conducted by Clark Rundell have recorded two orchestral pieces for future broadcast. On January 27th, they recorded Threnody, for full orchestra, and Wind-blown Seeds for string orchestra.

'A Birthday Card for Jane O'Leary', for solo piano, was premiered on November 20th 2016, by Xenia Pestova. The concert in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, was in honour of O'Leary's 70th birthday. It is published by Edition Peters, EP 73000.

'The Crimson Bird', for soprano and orchestra, will be premiered on Friday February 17th 2017 at the Barbican Centre, London. Rachel Nicholls is the soprano soloist, and Ilan Volkov conducts the BBCSO. The text is from John Fuller's poem 'Siege'. 'The Crimson Bird' was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society through the award of the Elgar Bursary.
